CropScout Lite
Precision agriculture doesn't have to cost $4,000 to start. The CropScout Lite brings AI crop stress detection, dual NIR+RGB imaging, and easy setup to farms of any size — starting at $1,800.
The CropScout Lite is designed for farmers who want to start using drone-based crop intelligence without the capital commitment of a full professional platform. It captures the data that matters most for small to medium farm operations — crop stress identification, problem zone mapping, and basic NDVI — in a package that non-technical farmers can deploy without specialist training.

Dual RGB+NIR Camera System
The CropScout Lite carries two cameras that capture simultaneously — a 12-megapixel RGB camera for visible-light imagery, and an 8-megapixel NIR (near-infrared) camera on the same focal plane. Because both cameras fire at the same instant, every image pair is perfectly co-registered without software alignment. This enables reliable NDVI calculation (using the NIR and Red bands) even from a non-specialist pilot without calibration targets.
The NIR camera uses a modified Sony sensor with the internal IR-cut filter removed and a 720nm longpass filter fitted, which is the industry-standard configuration for agricultural NIR imaging. The result is NDVI data that is directly comparable to imagery from professional multispectral platforms for crop health assessment purposes.
AI Crop Stress Detection
The most useful feature for non-technical operators is the on-device AI crop stress detection. After a flight, the CropScout Lite processes its own imagery to identify pixels that match stress signatures from its training library — which covers 14 crop types and the most common stress presentations including nitrogen deficiency, fungal disease patches, waterlogging, drought stress, and weed encroachment.
The AI outputs a zone map — colour-coded by stress category and severity — that is accessible in the companion CropScout App within 20 minutes of landing. The zone map is immediately actionable: farmers can use it to guide ground-based scouting to the identified areas, or to share with an agronomist for prescription decisions.
30-Minute Flight Time
At a 100m operating altitude with standard 75% overlap, the CropScout Lite covers approximately 150 acres per battery. For farms under 200 acres, this means the entire operation can typically be completed in one to two flights. For farms up to 500 acres, two batteries cover the farm in a single session. We recommend a minimum of two batteries for farm operations above 100 acres.
Suitable Farms and Operations
The CropScout Lite is specifically designed for farms under 500 acres where the precision agriculture benefit is clear, but the FieldMapper M10's 400-acre per charge coverage and 5-band sensor are more than the operation requires. Typical customers include: small grain farmers wanting to identify input zones, horticultural operations monitoring orchard and vineyard health, market gardeners tracking irrigation uniformity, and hobby farmers or agricultural students building drone-based data skills.
For operations above 500 acres, operations requiring prescription map accuracy sufficient for variable rate application, or operations where regular time-series comparison is critical, the FieldMapper M10 is the more appropriate platform.
Easy Setup for Non-Technical Farmers
The CropScout Lite is designed to reach first flight in under 20 minutes without any prior drone experience. The CropScout App guides the setup process step by step — field boundary drawing on a satellite base map, automatic flight path generation, pre-flight checklist, and one-button mission launch. The drone handles all navigation autonomously; the operator simply monitors from a tablet and is ready to take control if needed.
Landing is automatic at the mission end point. The drone returns to the launch location and lands within 2–3 metres of its takeoff point, making recovery straightforward even for new operators.
Compatible Software
The CropScout App (iOS and Android, included with purchase) handles field planning, mission execution, and AI stress analysis. For operators who want to do their own mapping and analysis, the raw images export in standard JPEG+EXIF format compatible with DroneDeploy, QGIS, and any photogrammetry software that accepts geotagged imagery.
ROI at Small Farm Scale
At $1,800 purchase price, the CropScout Lite has a lower return-on-investment requirement than enterprise platforms. Even modest input savings — identifying a 10-acre disease patch before it spreads, applying foliar nutrition only to the stressed zones identified in a single flight — can represent economic value that recouvers the purchase price in one to two seasons on farms above 100 acres. Contract scouting services using the CropScout Lite typically charge $3–6 per acre, meaning 300–600 acres of contract work returns the device cost.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a drone licence to fly the CropScout Lite?
At 1.35 kg, the CropScout Lite exceeds the 250g registration threshold in most countries. Commercial agricultural use typically requires the operator to hold a Part 107 certificate (US), A2 CofC (UK/EU), or equivalent. Contact our team for guidance on your jurisdiction.
How does the AI stress detection compare to a professional agronomist assessment?
The AI stress detection is a screening tool — it identifies areas that warrant investigation, not a definitive diagnosis. It performs well at detecting spatial patterns of stress that ground scouting would miss due to coverage limitations. Definitive identification of the stress cause still requires ground inspection or laboratory analysis. The tool is designed to guide that ground scouting efficiently, not to replace agronomic expertise.
Can I upgrade to RTK GPS later?
The CropScout Lite does not support RTK GPS hardware upgrade. If RTK accuracy becomes important to your operation, the FieldMapper M10 is the upgrade path. Both platforms output compatible file formats, so workflow and software skills developed on the CropScout Lite transfer directly.
Is the CropScout Lite suitable for vine or orchard crops?
Yes — the 5cm/px resolution at 100m altitude is sufficient to identify within-row stress variation in orchards and vineyards. The AI model includes vine and tree crop stress signatures. Flying at 60–80m altitude improves resolution to 3–4cm/px for more detailed canopy analysis in row crops.
