Apex Freestyle 5"

Built for pilots who want to express something in the air. The Apex Freestyle takes a full-carbon unibody, pairs it with a DJI O3 Air Unit, and gets out of the way.

The Carbon Fibre Unibody Advantage

Traditional FPV frames use separate top and bottom plates joined by standoffs, creating multiple failure points under impact. The Apex Freestyle uses a full unibody carbon fibre chassis — the top deck, bottom plate, and motor arm structure are machined from a single sheet of 3K carbon fibre. The result is a frame that flexes under impact rather than cracking at joints, and returns to shape rather than shattering.

In practical terms, this means the Apex Freestyle survives crashes that would write off a conventional multi-piece frame. Our internal testing shows average crash survival rates 3.4x higher than equivalent modular frames at the same weight class.

DJI O3 Air Unit: 4K at 2ms

The O3 Air Unit is the benchmark for digital FPV video quality. At 4K 60fps with a 2ms latency figure, it delivers footage that is genuinely usable for commercial work alongside the immersive real-time feed pilots need for safe fast flight. The O3 also records directly to a micro-SD card at up to 150 Mbps — independent of the goggles, so you're capturing clean footage even if the goggles connection degrades during a manoeuvre.

The Apex Freestyle's camera mount is a 25-degree fixed angle by default, optimised for forward-flight freestyle. Optional 20-degree and 30-degree mounts are included in the box, allowing pilots to dial in their preferred camera angle without tools.

Motor Specifications and Power

The 2306 1750KV motors are chosen specifically for freestyle flying. They produce strong mid-range torque — what pilots describe as the "punch" during snap rolls and inverted flying — without the high-RPM scream of race-tuned motors that reduces control feel. On 6S power, the Apex Freestyle will perform power loops and split-S manoeuvres with margins to spare. On 4S, it is slightly more forgiving for pilots developing their freestyle vocabulary.

Who Is the Apex Freestyle For?

This drone is designed for intermediate to expert freestyle pilots. "Intermediate" in FPV context means: you can fly in acro mode without significant wobbling, you understand what PID tuning does even if you don't yet tune yourself, and you have crashed enough drones to know that durability matters. If that describes you, the Apex Freestyle 5" is the best value proposition in our catalogue at this skill level.

Beginners will find the Apex Freestyle unforgiving — acro mode has no self-levelling, and a crash at freestyle speeds without the muscle memory to recover will damage props or motors. We recommend the Micro Whoop 3" as a learning platform first.

Battery Options

The Apex Freestyle accepts both 4S and 6S LiPo batteries via its XT60 connector. We recommend starting with 4S 1500mAh packs for learning freestyle moves — the slightly reduced power makes the drone more predictable. Move to 6S 1100mAh packs when you want more snap and authority. Both battery sizes are available as optional extras at checkout.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Apex Freestyle available as a kit?

Yes — we offer a kit version without the O3 Air Unit for pilots who already own the unit or prefer Walksnail Avatar. The kit price is $399. Contact us for kit availability.

What goggles work with the O3 Air Unit?

DJI Goggles 2, DJI Goggles 3, and DJI Goggles Integra all work natively. Walksnail Avatar goggles are not compatible with the O3 unit — they require the Avatar HD kit instead.

Can I tune the PIDs myself?

Yes. The Apex Freestyle ships with a baseline Betaflight tune file that is suitable for most freestyle pilots. We include the CLI dump file so you can restore factory tune at any time. Betaflight Configurator (free download) is all you need to adjust.

How does the warranty handle crash damage?

The 12-month warranty covers manufacturer defects only. Crash damage is not covered, but every structural component — arms, unibody plates, motor mounts — is available individually in our spare parts store at competitive pricing.
